Come visit Abu Dhabi Theater (Qasr Al Amwaj)
For its fourth edition in 2010, the Abu
Dhabi Film Festival is excited about a new screening location: Abu
Dhabi Theater. It's a place you might have seen many
times without knowing what it was: the familiar domed building at
the foot of the flagpole on the Breakwater. Known as Qasr Al Amwaj
("Castle of the Waves") in Arabic, Abu Dhabi Theater is a
distinctive landmark on Abu Dhabi's shoreline, and offers visitors
a spectacular view of the Corniche and the city beyond.
The screenings and events taking place
there are special occasions, as Abu Dhabi Theater is not normally
open to the public. The Festival is deeply appreciative of the
Emirates Heritage Club for allowing the use of this location. For
visitors and residents of Abu Dhabi alike, the Theater is an ideal
stop on the ADFF itinerary - it's right next to Marina Mall, where
many other films are screened, and not far from Emirates Palace,
the Festival's hub.
The building itself is a beautiful tribute
to classic Arabic architecture. And it's a great place to watch a
film - it's large and comfortable, with a generous lobby offering
space to relax and enjoy refreshments. The Festival's free shuttle
service is available to take patrons to and from Marina Mall's
parking lot about every five minutes, with extra shuttles available
at the Theater at the end of screenings.
Abu Dhabi Theater plays a central role
during the Festival. Not only are many of the remarkable films in
ADFF's program screening there, but it hosts a number of exclusive
Festival events open to the public. Among these are a special
encounter with star Adrien Brody and the filmmakers behind the new
thriller Wrecked on October 16, and a conversation with
Uma Thurman on October 22. The Theater is also the location for
ADFF's Family Day on Saturday, October 23, which features a special
program of family-oriented short films, a screening of Charlie
Chaplin's comedy classic The Circus, and much more.
It promises to be an exciting ten days at
Abu Dhabi Theater. It's a chance for guests to experience all that
the Festival has to offer in a unique location that is absolutely
Abu Dhabi.
