Emirates Competition
15.10.2010 - Today marks
the start of ADFF's Emirates Comptition, which is made up of short
films from the UAE and the GCC nations. This is an
exciting year for this competition, now in its tenth year, as it is
formally joining ADFF's program for the first time.
The Emirates Competition gets right to the
heart of ADFFs mission to nurture and promote the film scene here
in Abu Dhabi. The filmmakers represented in this section are
generally young and just beginning their film careers. Most of them
are Arabic - but there are films made by Gulf residents of other
ethnicities too.
Taken together, their perspectives of life in this region, and the
ways they express their culture and identity on film, are uniquely
their own and entirely fresh. It's a genuinely new film scene
arising at the same moment the UAE is coming into its own as a
center of commerce and culture.
