How far are decent people willing to go when tragedy blurs the line between just and unjust? In A Second Chance, director Susanne Bier and screenwriter Anders Thomas Jensen have crafted another startling yet moving drama that compels the audience to reflect on their own moral values and weigh them heavily against the urge for pragmatism. As in many of their previous films, the subtext explores the distance between being savable and not savable. At what point does redemption become impossible? Is there such a point? Detectives and best friends Andreas (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Game of Thrones) and Simon (Ulrich Thomsen) lead vastly different lives. Andreas has settled down with his beautiful wife and sonwhile Simon, recently divorced, spends most of his waking hours getting drunk at the local strip club. But all that changes when they respond to a domestic dispute and find a junkie couplecaught in a vicious cycle of violence and drugs. It all looks very routine . . . until Andreas discoversthe couple'sinfantson in frightful condition. Bier says, “A Second Chance is an intense personal drama about what happens when vulnerable people are forced into circumstances beyond their control; about how we aren’t as immune to chaos as we like to think; and about the secrets harbored by those closest to us.' —Alissa Simon
