Mais Darwazah

My Love Awaits Me by the Sea

Palestine, Jordan

Producers: Rula Nasser Al Rawashdeh

Production Company: The Imaginarium House

Project Logline:

In his book Hasan Is Everywhere, Hasan refused adulthood in order to avoid a bitter reality. His work, which forms the backbone of this film, generated a feeling that is necessary to generations of present-day Palestinians who live with war and death as an everyday norm. Mais Darwazah’s personal account of displacement takes her on a near-impossible first-time journey back to her homeland. Fairy tale and reality are weaved together to ask, How do you return to a place that only exists in your mind?

Mais Darwazah began her independent film career by making short experimental films, including It Wasn’t a Question of Olives (2001), The Human Puppet (2005), Still Waiting (2007) and Aisha’s Journey (2009). With a postgraduate scholarship from the British Council, she completed a master’s degree in documentary directing at Edinburgh College of Art. Her graduation film, Take Me Home (2008), was selected by numerous international film festivals.
