Project Logline:

Tunis, summer of 2010, a few months before the revolution, Farah turns 18. She joins a politically-engaged band of musicians, and discovers freedom and sexuality…against her mother Hayet’s will, who knows Tunisia and its taboos. The two women are opposed in a conflict. When Farah finally sets free, it’s to end up in the hands of the state police…


Leyla Bouzid was born in Tunis, where she is an active member of the association of young Tunisian filmmakers. After graduation, she moved to Paris to study French literature. She began her career in the cinema as assistant director on several films and in 2006 she co-directed her first short film, Sbeh el Khir. She studied directing at the FEMIS in Paris. Soubresauts was presented in competition at the Festival International du Court Métrage de Clermont-Ferrand in January 2012.
